The Best Seats at the Show are Actually the Back

Had an awesome experience last night. Veteran's Club had an event that required volunteers for some service work at the North American Championship Rodeo. I had no idea what I was going to do. By the end of the night, I would come to realize how my position and duty was of utmost importance. I would also learn the best seats at the show are actually the back..
Ended up we were either ushering the event, scan tickets and stamping hands, or manning a booth. Apparently fewer people than I expected do not prefer scanning tickets. I do though.
Freedom Hall is a big oval. Thing is at the end of the oval is the performer entry and egress to the arena and it is blocked off. That is a hazard area.
Scanning tickets wasn't a rocket science position. The act itself was quite simple, but there was a much greater opportunity beyond the simple act of scanning tickets. For me I became most important that I did what I could to welcome people in, point them to the best seats in the house, and prepare them to enjoy the show.
Now having been the first time I ever did this didn't intimidate me none. Matter of fact, I knew I was gonna screw up and drop the ball. Lady came up to me and, showed me her ticket, which said, SECTION L. Now for some reason I thought in my mind I had memorized those sections. I thought section L was at the other end of the other side. It wasn't. Ramp L was invisible just around the corner beyond my vision from the ramp N and M I was standing by. I sent that lady and her family all the way back around the entire Freedom Hall walk.
She came back and told me they wouldn't let her pass the hazard area. The lady said, "I could see ramp L, but they wouldn't let us pass because they had started the show and horses and cattle were already moving."
When the lady came back and started explaining, she said they told her to go around and couldn't get through and had to go around. Then it clicked, at that moment I knew I made the first most important mistake of the evening and effected the possibility of having influenced a disappointment. I stopped the lady and said, "I am so sorry, I was the one who told you to go around in the first place."
I passed my scanner to my fellow greeter, scooped up that family and took them to the best seats in the house. I know they were the best seats because it said so labeled right there by the numbers on her ticket: Ramp L, Section 227, Row S, Seats 101-103.
Now most people think the best seats in the house are the box seats where groups gather and parties are thrown, where the special people are privileged to gather. And most people think Ramp L and K are the worst seats and sections because the view of the show isn't the best. True perhaps, but what those who believe that fail to realize how close they are to the performers and the production team.
I remember several times my ticket seated me in K or L sections. I remember the importance of those backstage seats as both a spectator and security personnel for many shows. I saw the best and worst of everything in those seats. Sections K and L are the most special groups of seats in the house. Those are the power seats. One can actually learn how to run the show from those seats. After having sat in many sections and seats along my own personal performances and life journey, I learned first hand why the best seats at the show are actually the back.
Enjoy the show!
